Meet childcare traineeship trainer Kylie

Meet our Childcare traineeship trainer, Kylie Buck. She has worked at h&h Accredited Training for 5 years and over this time, has made a huge positive impact on our students. These students have now gone on to become professionals in the childcare industry throughout Sydney. However, Kylie was not always a trainer, prior to join h&h she was a dedicated childcare educator and senior leader herself with over 15 years of experience in the sector before moving to training.

At h&h Accredited Training, we are proud to have experienced industry professionals like Kylie guiding our trainees every step of the way. Her commitment to quality training and genuine care for student success truly reflects the values of our college.

While Kylie is usually the one asking our trainee students the questions, today we have turned the tables on Kylie and are asking her the questions to help shed some light on what it is like to be a trainee with h&h Accredited Training:

  1. What inspired you to become an early childhood education and care traineeship trainer, and what do you enjoy most about your role?

I was inspired to become a childcare traineeship trainer because I’ve always believed that early childhood educators shape the foundation of a child’s life. After working in the sector myself for 15 plus years, I had the pleasure of supporting new educators build on their skills and confidence in all aspects of the environment which led me down the path as a trainer. Becoming a trainer allowed me to combine my love for teaching with my passion for early childhood development and compliance while still being able to be a part of the industry through monthly visits with students and engagement with Directors. I don’t think I could ever step away from the services totally.

The highlight of my job is watching my trainees transform into educators, seeing someone start a new career or build on their skills when enrolling into their diploma, is incredibly rewarding. I love hearing their stories from on the floor and watching them grow in a creative manner when they build the courage up to take part in planning, programming and taking the lead.

  1. What kind of skills and personal qualities are important for someone considering an early childhood education and care traineeship?

A childcare trainee suits people that are driven to learn and have effective communication skills. They must show kindness through demonstrating patience and support, be flexible as children have different personalities and values and most importantly, have the ability to work as a team.

  1. How does a traineeship help students build confidence and professional competence?

Taking on a role as a trainee at an early education centre provides so many benefits, you are able to learn through practical hands-on experiences which link to our study materials or vice versa, your study materials may support your practical skills in real life situations. You are provided with a trainer that visits the service once a month and you have access to daily mentors that also help guide you and build on your knowledge which then results in your confidence and professional competency.

  1. What success stories from your trainees stand out to you the most?

Some of the most memorable success stories are the trainees who started out extremely shy or unsure of their daily duties and expectations and now they have become educational leaders, mentoring new trainees and supporting Directors in maintaining compliance along with building beautiful relationships with families. An example of this was one of my students who ended up building a massive mural in the hallways based on each quality area and could confidently link all her teaching practices, routines and experiences to each quality area. Watching that transformation is exactly why I love this work.

  1. Based on your experience, what advice would you give to someone considering a childcare traineeship?

If you are considering taking on a role as a childcare worker, a traineeship is the best form of study in my opinion. It does take someone to have the mindset of being open to new things and an understanding of different values and beliefs but if you ask questions, build the relationships, be kind to yourself and remember why you are there, it is so rewarding and incredibly meaningful.

Kylie’s insights show just how powerful the right support and guidance can be. At h&h Accredited Training, we don’t just deliver qualifications — we walk alongside our trainees as they grow, learn and discover their confidence in the industry. If you’re thinking about starting a career in early childhood education and care, a traineeship could be your first step into a role that is not only meaningful, but truly life-changing — for you and for the children you’ll support every day.
